Steffen Frahm, ein alter Freund von Dr. Kathrin Globisch, muss sich einer Bypass-OP unterziehen. Er hofft auf eine neue Liebe mit Kathrin, doch er spürt, dass in ihrem Leben kein Platz für ihn ist. Alexander Weber ist überraschend wieder in Leipzig und versteckt sich bei Kathrin. Er bittet sie, zusammen mit ihm nach Kuba zu gehen und dort ein neues Leben zu beginnen. So absurd der Gedanke ihr auch vorkommt, so spürt sie doch, dass auch sie nicht von ihm loskommt. Dann taucht die Polizei in der Sachsenklinik auf. Als Philipp sich über die neuesten sportlichen Pläne von Hans-Peter lustig macht, wird er von Arzu unsanft darauf hingewiesen, dass auch er mal etwas für seine Gesundheit tun könnte. In seiner Eitelkeit gekränkt, übertreibt er es gleich etwas mit dem Training und muss sich Hans-Peter gegenüber geschlagen geben.

Arzu wünscht sich mehr Schwung in ihrer Partnerschaft mit Philipp und bucht einen Salsa-Kurs. Als ihre Tanzlehrerin umknickt, will Philipp - froh, dem Tanzkurs zu entkommen - sie sofort in der Sachsenklinik behandeln. Die Diagnose ist für die junge Tänzerin hart: eine Knochentuberkulose. Es scheint das Aus für ihre Zukunftspläne zu sein, doch ihr Tanzpartner steht voller Liebe und Optimismus hinter ihr. Alexander Weber hält sich immer noch bei Dr. Katrin Globisch versteckt und bereitet seine Flucht nach Kuba vor. Er versucht, Kathrin davon zu überzeugen, ihn zusammen mit ihrer Tochter Hannah zu begleiten. Kathrin ist hin- und hergerissen zwischen der Aussicht, mit Alexander ein großes Abenteuer zu wagen oder ihr Leben in Leipzig weiter zu leben. Nach einem intensiven Arbeitstag springt sie bei einer OP über ihren Schatten und führt diese allein zu Ende, weil Dr. Philipp Brentano sich verletzt.

Ein junger Mann, Lukas Ruge, kommt mit Nierensteinen in die Sachsenklinik. Hans-Peter Brenner und Schwester Ulrike Stolze übernehmen die Erstversorgung. Ulrike merkt schnell, dass mit dem jungen Mann etwas nicht stimmt. Sie findet heraus, dass er alkohol- und medikamentenabhängig ist. Um ihm das Versprechen eines Entzugs nach seiner Behandlung abzunehmen, gibt sie ihm in Absprache mit Hans-Peter Brenner ein Medikament gegen die Entzugschmerzen. Ein schlimmer Fehler, denn bei der anschließenden OP kommt es zu Komplikationen, für die Dr. Rolf Kaminski eine Erklärung fordert. Sarah Marquardts Gefühle fahren Achterbahn. Von Richard Noll, der sie nach wie vor fasziniert und verwirrt, erfährt sie von einer Ausschreibung zu einem Bioprinting-Exzellenz-Zentrum. Sarah ist begeistert und möchte das Projekt in die Sachsenklinik holen. Doch bei Dr. Kathrin Globisch und Dr. Roland Heilmann trifft sie auf Skepsis. Auch Vera Bader hält dieses Projekt für die Sachsenklinik für ungeeignet.

Schwester Ulrike freut sich darüber, dass ihr Sohn Johannes längere Zeit bei ihr in Leipzig verbringen wird. Johannes studiert Medizin in Heidelberg und hat beschlossen, sein Pflegepraktikum an der Sachsenklinik zu absolvieren. Doch schon bald stellt Ulrike fest, dass ihr Sohn gesundheitliche Probleme hat. Hans-Peter Brenner diagnostiziert eine Blinddarmreizung. Gegen Brenners ausdrücklichen Rat möchte Johannes jedoch weiterarbeiten. Johannes fürchtet eine stationäre Aufnahme und eine eventuelle Operation. Als es schließlich fast zu einem Blinddarmdurchbruch kommt und Schwester Ulrike herausfindet, dass ihr Sohn Drogen konsumiert, muss sie einen schweren Entschluss fassen. Gleichzeitig kommt es zwischen Lea Peters und ihrem Freund Jenne Derbeck zu einer Auseinandersetzung. Jenne möchte den gemeinsamen Sohn Tim nicht impfen lassen. Für Lea als Ärztin ist das jedoch unvorstellbar. Beide müssen lernen, Kompromisse für ihre Beziehung einzugehen.

Felix Sonntag wird von Max Hellmann, dem IT-Techniker, der vor einigen Monaten das Computersystem der Sachsenklinik lahmgelegt hat, bei einem Streit mit einer Schreckschusspistole schwer im Gesicht verletzt. Die Ärzte der Sachsenklinik sind nicht auf Schussverletzungen spezialisiert. Sarah fordert deshalb den erfahrenen Bundeswehrarzt Dr. Kai Hoffmann an. Während Hoffmann versucht, Felix' Gesicht zu retten, bangen Sarah und Richard Noll gemeinsam um Felix. Dr. Roland Heilmann, Dr. Martin Stein und Dr. Kathrin Globisch fahren nach Erfurt, um im Johannes-Thal-Klinikum eine Fortbildung zu absolvieren. Nach dem Vortrag der attraktiven Dr. Emilia Hasselhoff beschließen die drei Freunde, mit den Erfurter Kollegen Prof. Karin Patzelt und Niklas Ahrend noch etwas trinken zu gehen. Als Martin einen Betrunkenen vor einem Unfall bewahren will, verletzt er sich selbst schwer und muss im Johannes-Thal-Klinikum operiert werden.
