Serious and not-so-serious segments centered around the 2008 presidential campaign. Serious moments come in the form of pre-taped segments from Democratic presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-New York) and Barack Obama (D-Illinois) , and presumed Republican nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona). The comedic moment features impersonators portraying Clinton and Obama; "Hillary" was accompanied by her husband, former President Bill, who was also played by an impersonator. Clinton and Obama spoke their signature lines and briefly grappled with one another before Umaga came out and laid out both "Hillary" and "Obama;" "Bill" fled before Umaga could attack him. Shawn Michaels and Batista confronted each other about their upcoming match at WWE Backlash. Batista told Michaels that his targeting him is about the tactics he (Michaels) used to get to where he's at in his career, tactics he disapproves of. Michaels agreed and admitted his past victims are but collateral damage, then told Batista their differences will be settled at Backlash. Batista accepted Michaels' handshake, then pulled him in close for a staredown before leaving the ring, teasing a look or two back on his way out of the arena. Maria, accompanied by several face divas, introduced new WWE Women's Champion Mickie James, who upset Beth Phoenix for the title on April 14. Mickie was in the middle of her speech when Beth Phoenix (accompanied by several heel divas) came to the ring and said her winning the title back wasn't a matter of if, but when. A fight broke out, with the faces getting the upper hand. Match results KING OF THE RING 'Quarterfinals' * Chris Jericho def. MVP by submission in 5 minutes. * C.M. Punk pinned Matt Hardy after foiling a sunset flip attempt in 4 minutes. * Finlay def. The Great Khali by disqualification in 2 minutes when Khali refused to stop beating up Finlay. * William Regal def. Hornswoggle by submission in 15 seconds. 'Semifinals' * Punk pinned Jericho in 6 minutes following a "Go to Sleep." * Regal def. Finlay by referee's decision in 4 minutes after Finlay became trapped in the Regal Stretch and was unable to tap out. 'Finals' * Regal def. Punk by submission in 6 minutes to win the "King of the Ring" tournament. Other matches * Carlito pinned Hardcore Holly in 4 minutes following the "Back Stabber." Following the match, Santino Marella refused to heed Cody Rhodes' warning to shut up and (as promised) was struck over the head with Rhodes' microphone. * Edge, JBL, Randy Orton and Chavo Guererro def. The Undertaker, Kane, Triple H and John Cena in 9 minutes when Edge pinned Kane. A post-match mêlée ensued, ending when Undertaker chokeslammed Orton and JBL. Gesehen von 1 User |
