Bereits seit Jahren gibt es Gerüchte und Gespräche darüber, dass uns ein weiterer "Gremlins"-Film heimsuchen soll. Genauer gesagt ein Reboot. Doch passiert ist bislang nichts. Zumindest war lange klar, dass Kultregisseur Joe Dante entweder erneut die Regie übernehmen sollte oder zumindest die Produktion übernimmt.

Doch weit gefehlt: Denn wo nun das Projekt mit Warner allmählich fahrt aufnimmt, meldet sich Dante selbst zu Wort und bestätigt, dass er definitiv kein Teil eines neuen Filmes ist.

"I am not involved with it," So Dante. "It's something that we hear about every six months for the past five to ten years. I know there have been many attempts to do it. It's tricky because the rights are jointly owned by Warner Bros and [Steven Spielberg's] Amblin, so you've got to jump through two hurdles to get your idea approved."

Weiter führt er aus: "I know a lot of very well known people have come up with ideas for another 'Gremlins' movie and [nothing ever happened]. I do know, however, that there's a script being written now and the tricky thing is that I'm not sure that the people making the movie now understand what the original appeal was of the first movie, which was not beloved by the studio until it started making money."

So ist Dante, obwohl ständig solche Nachrichten berichtet wurden, bislang nie Teil der Gespräche gewesen. Die Rechte liegen bei Warner und Amblin. Und so weiß Dante weder ob ein Drehbuch aktuell geschrieben wird oder wie weit eine Produktion überhaupt ist. Schade...
