Lukas and his new lover, hairdresser Lea Mommsen, consider moving out together as she can afford an apartment, but father considers that desertion as they agreed Lukas would help raise his kid brothers. Tom worries as Jo waves warnings against bad company at school, which indeed inspires even theft from his big brother. Katharina survived the car crash but clashes even worse with pastor Andreas and culprit driver Anna Breckwoldt is crushed by guilt.

Lukas moves out to hairdresser-lover Lea's place, with his kid brothers' blessing, but without father's, and finds his study threatened by her lust. Thomas must now take his place, Jacob is confused. Baker Paul Kalinder is delighted with wife Sandra (40)'s pregnancy which she fears may h-yield complications or even a handicapped child. Andreas wrestles between parental understanding and ecclesiastic teachings.

Lukas takes a waiter job to pay his part while living with his hairdresser lover, who friskily cramps on his studies, while his absence means less sensible checks on his brothers, especially Jo in bad company. Visiting his brothers, Lukas finds Jo slipping into excessive drinking. Andreas's younger pastoral deputy Marc Wenkstern plans a fine first impression but gets a barely lukewarm welcome, yet ends up winning confidence by solving the delicate case of disabled retired mailman Rolf Brüggemann, whose daughter Angelika Heller can't keep up caring for hi at his home. Churcj-h council chair Contanze reads Andreas the riot act for repeated lateness, yet apologizes the next day and confides her tragic divorce secret.

Thomas neglects his high-school finals to help Katharina deal with her shop's problems, but can't prevent foreclosure. Lukas's relationship with lea goes g-badly, rowing over money and privacy. Norbert Schümm returns home after over ten years absence overseas. When Thoma's best buddy Julius sleeps over, he misreads a sign and outs himself, only to be dumped as friend altogether. Marc Wenkstern still doesn't see eye to eye with the rest of the parochial team. Romantic frustration and an ID crisis make Thom decide not to finish his studies.

Thomas finally gathers the courage as sleepover host to show his gay interest in buddy Julius, only to be scorned and made the class laughing stock. Shattered, he neglects his graduation and tries in vain to help Katharine prevent her father's antiques shop being foreclosed. Marc refuses to officiate a gay 'marriage' for Sven Büter and Carsten van Eifeler as neither is a regular parishioner and evangelical church policy forbids it. Andreas braves the authorities by offering a non-sacramental service, but the couple can't agree on that 'fake'.

Lukas drops by to do some laundry just in time to scare off gay bashers from Thomas and help talk the high-school principal out of expelling Jo, who was caught dealing hash on top of his big mouth everywhere. The lout promises it was a one off but is soon tempted again by the school dealer. Mark is indignant that Andreas accepts to arrange a church funeral for the family which left the parish long after the father Moritz committed suicide. Lukas returns home, having broken probably for good with Lea, and finds brothers, especially Jacob, taken with a baby foundling, whose mother is soon found but selfishly refuses to try motherhood, blaming her father and refusing to tell him or see the unknown father. The parish council expected Constanze Abels's reelection as chair to be annual routine, but she seals her fate bypassing out indignant when her deputy Anna Breckwoldt stands, promising a modern, soft style, endorsed by second preacher Marc Wenkstern, but taking over proves not so easy. .
